Music

I'm just going to be honest... I have some quirky taste in music. I, personally, love my taste in music but not all of my friends do. I blame credit my Dad with the eclectic collection I have acquired through the years! Dad is one of the most "squared away" people that I know and so it's fitting that he loves bag-pipes, hymns, and Americana music (think Johnny Horton-- I used to sing a pretty fine rendition of "Jim Bridger" as a lullaby for my baby dolls). But being in college when he was, Dad also loves a little hippier music, like Carol King, John Denver (my friends constantly make fun of my for that one), and Dan Fogelberg. Being from Mississippi, Dad also loves bluegrass and old school country! SO, mix all of those together and you can understand why my sisters and I are never short on random and surprising CDs in our cars.

Here are a few of my favorite bands and albums that I would absolutely recommend if you want some new tunes!

  • The Avett Brothers: a little modern Blue-grass... More twang before "Emotionalism", less twang after
  • Willie Nelson: The "Greatest Hits... And a Few that Will Be" album is a personal favorite
  • Sandra McCracken: If I could sing like anyone it would be her or the next lady on my list
  • Beyonce: say what you want about her, but B has sass and class... I'm a big fan.
  • John Denver: I really do love him! I'd start with the 2nd CD of his greatest hits collection
  • Miles Davis: One of America's kings of jazz... a must-have for any music library
  • Iron & Wine: Like Gordon Lightfoot, Sam Beam has a hauntingly beautiful voice. As my Mom would say, "He just wears well."
